Come sail away in historic and charming Southport, NC!
Seeing this beautiful area from one of our sailboats is an attraction not to be missed. Southport is
an easy drive from Myrtle Beach, Topsail Island, Wilmington, Carolina Beach, Kure Beach,
Jacksonville and Fayetteville. Southport makes a great day-trip for nearby vacationers, and a
sailboat sleepover provides a wonderful weekend get-away from other southeastern areas, such
as Charlotte, Winston -Salem, Greensboro, Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill. Our sailing
lessons and cruises are a great escape.
Priority Sailing
From Myrtle Beach, Wilmington, Charlotte, Fayetteville, Jacksonville, Topsail Island, and the
Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill area. Head to Highway 17 in Brunswick County. Highways 211, 87, and 133 all
lead to Southport and bring you to Howe Street. Drive south past the water tower, to Moore Street. It has a stop
light and is one block north of the river. Turn right there.
From Kure Beach or Carolina Beach, you can have a pleasant trip to Southport via the Southport-Fort Fisher
ferry. The ferry costs $5.00 per car, each way. You should expect the trip to take a little over an hour: 15 minutes
to drive to the ferry, 15 - 45 minutes to wait in line, 30 minutes for the ferry ride, and 5 minutes to reach the Old
Yacht Basin. In the summer months you need to be in line well ahead of time to be assured of a spot on the
ferry. We recommend you plan to catch an earlier ferry than the one required to get you to our boat at the
scheduled time. You can sight see in Southport if you arrive early.
Once you get off the ferry, proceed on Ferry Road to the round-about, and then turn left on Moore St. There will
be a stop light at Howe St.
The Visitors Center and Keziah Park are in the first block of West Moore Street after the stop light, on the left.
You may want to stop there for a picnic, friendly information on the area, and to pick up walking trail maps.
West Moore Street ends at Yacht Basin Drive. Park wherever you find a space. The Carolina Gale, our
Tayana 52' sailboat, is normally docked behind Fishy Fishy Café, right where Moore Street ends. You can't
miss the tall mast, which stands 70 feet above the water. We bring the Carolina Breeze, our Colgate 26
sailboat, there to pick up and drop off passengers.
